January Bulletin - January 8, 2004
Dear Southwest Community Neighbor,Happy New Year! May 2004 be a year of blessings, peace, and renewed hope for you and your loved ones.
SAFETY: In the last Bulletin, we mentioned that our children needed your help in crossing the intersection of Hammerberg and Crestbrook between 3:45 and 4:00 each school day afternoon, noting that some drivers were not respecting the patrols by stopping to allow the children to cross the road. At the last meeting, we watched a video taken at that intersection that clearly showed drivers not yielding to pedestrians. Consequently, the patrols (fifth and sixth grade students) held the children from crossing until there were absolutely no cars. This could be a long wait, and not good for our children especially in rainy or cold weather.
The Flint Police Department is seeking to employ a crossing guard for that intersection. The status of that search is not known at the time this Bulletin is being written. If you, or someone you know, is interested in being a school crossing guard, application forms are available through the Flint City Personnel Office. In the meantime, PLEASE, drive cautiously and respectfully at all school crossings to keep our children safe.CORRECTION: The November Bulletin incorrectly stated that amount contributed by the Southwest Crime Watch to the Neithercut Community School Halloween Party. The amount contributed was $100.
HELP WANTED: This Bulletin is read and appreciated by many of our neighbors, but unfortunately not everyone is receiving a copy. This is because we need more people to serve as deliverers. It really is an easy task, requiring not much more than thirty minutes of your time once a month. Not only will you be doing a service, but there are other benefits such as the healthy exercise of walking and the opportunity to say "Hi" to some of your neighbors. We need deliverers for the following streets:
Ingleside Tuxedo Lincoln
Alvord Campbell Windsor Lane
Fenton Rd Hargott Greenbriar
Can you help? Do you want more information? Give Debra Ramsey, our Bulletin delivery coordinator, a call at (810) 249-3863. She would be very happy to hear from you!
